Acts 13:28

Though ¹  they found ²  no basis ³  for a death sentence, ⁴  they asked Pilate to have him executed.

Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.

"And though they found no ground for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.

They found no just cause to execute him, but they asked Pilate to have him killed anyway.

They couldn't find a good reason, but demanded that Pilate execute him anyway.

¹ tn Grk “And though.” Because of the difference between Greek style, which often begins sentences or clauses with “and,” and English style, which generally does not, καί (kai) has not been translated here.

² tn The participle εὑρόντες (Jeuronte") has been translated as a concessive adverbial participle.

³ sn No basis. Luke insists on Jesus’ innocence again and again in Luke 23:1-25.

⁴ tn Grk “no basis for death,” but in this context a sentence of death is clearly indicated.
