Lamentations 3:32

Though he causes us ¹  grief, he then has compassion on us ²  according to the abundance of his loyal kindness. ³ 

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.

For if He causes grief, Then He will have compassion According to His abundant lovingkindness.

Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion according to the greatness of his unfailing love.

If he works severely, he also works tenderly. His stockpiles of loyal love are immense.

For though he sends grief, still he will have pity in the full measure of his love.

Although he causes grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;

Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies.

¹ tn Heb “Although he has caused grief.” The word “us” is added in the translation.

² tn Heb “He will have compassion.” The words “on us” are added in the translation.

³ tc The Kethib preserves the singular form חַסְדּוֹ (khasdo, “his kindness”), also reflected in the LXX and Aramaic Targum. The Qere reads the plural form חֲסָדָיו (khasadayv, “his kindnesses”) which is reflected in the Latin Vulgate.
