“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their ¹  hands when they eat.” ² 

Having no regard ¹  for the command of God, you hold fast to human tradition.” ² 

I ¹  was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my nation, ²  and was ³  extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors. ⁴ 

he does not need to honor his father.’ ¹  You have nullified the word of God on account of your tradition.

(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they perform a ritual washing, ¹  holding fast to the tradition of the elders.

He also said to them, “You neatly reject the commandment of God in order to set up ¹  your tradition.

Thus you nullify ¹  the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like this.”

He answered them, ¹  “And why do you disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?

The Pharisees and the experts in the law asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat ¹  with unwashed hands?”

I praise you ¹  because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, ¹  stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter. ² 

Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you ¹  through an empty, deceitful philosophy ²  that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits ³  of the world, and not according to Christ.

But we command you, brothers and sisters, ¹  in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who lives an undisciplined ²  life ³  and not according to the tradition they ⁴  received from us.

And when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. They hold fast to many other traditions: the washing of cups, pots, kettles, and dining couches. ¹ ) ² 

You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed – not by perishable things like silver or gold,
