They will never follow a stranger, ¹  but will run away from him, because they do not recognize ²  the stranger’s voice.” ³ 

Let them be for yourself ¹  alone, and not for strangers with you. ² 

“‘Adulterous wife, who prefers strangers instead of her own husband!

When they were few in number, just a very few, and foreign residents within it,

When they were few in number, just a very few, and resident aliens within it,

“You must not wrong ¹  a foreigner ²  nor oppress him, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

May the creditor seize ¹  all he owns! May strangers loot his property! ² 

lest strangers devour ¹  your strength, ²  and your labor ³  benefit ⁴  another man’s house.

Dear friend, ¹  you demonstrate faithfulness ²  by whatever you do for the brothers (even though they are strangers).

They kill the widow and the one residing outside his native land, and they murder the fatherless. ¹ 

My guests ¹  and my servant girls consider ²  me a stranger; I am a foreigner ³  in their eyes.

When ¹  did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and clothe you?

“You must not oppress ¹  a foreigner, since you know the life ²  of a foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

I am like a foreigner in this land. ¹  Do not hide your commands from me!

“‘If a resident foreigner who is with you prospers ¹  and your brother becomes impoverished with regard to him so that ²  he sells himself to a resident foreigner who is with you or to a member ³  of a foreigner’s family,

So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

My own brothers treat me like a stranger; they act as if I were a foreigner. ¹ 

The one who puts up security for a stranger ¹  will surely have trouble, ²  but whoever avoids ³  shaking hands ⁴  will be secure.

Our inheritance ¹  is turned over to strangers; foreigners now occupy our homes. ² 

Take a man’s ¹  garment ²  when he has given security for a stranger, ³  and when he gives surety for strangers, ⁴  hold him ⁵  in pledge.
