David sent scouts and verified that Saul had indeed arrived. ¹ 

They returned from investigating the land after forty days.

The servants of the district governors led the march. When Ben Hadad sent messengers, they reported back to him, “Men are marching out of Samaria.” ¹ 

So they went up and investigated the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, ¹  at the entrance of Hamath. ² 

So they tracked them ¹  as far as the Jordan. The road was filled with clothes and equipment that the Syrians had discarded in their haste. ²  The scouts ³  went back and told the king.

Discretion ¹  will protect you, ²  understanding will guard you,

These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to investigate the land. And Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua. ¹ 

When Moses sent ¹  them to investigate the land of Canaan, he told them, “Go up through the Negev, ²  and then go up into the hill country

And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of those who had investigated the land, tore their garments.

They said to the whole community of the Israelites, “The land we passed through to investigate is an exceedingly ¹  good land.

The men whom Moses sent to investigate the land, who returned and made the whole community murmur against him by producing ¹  an evil report about the land,

So they picked two horsemen and the king sent them out to track the Syrian army. ¹  He ordered them, “Go and find out what’s going on.” ² 

So all of you approached me and said, “Let’s send some men ahead of us to scout out the land and bring us back word as to how we should attack it and what the cities are like there.”

But Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among ¹  the men who went to investigate the land, lived.

I thought this was a good idea, ¹  so I sent ²  twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.

They left and went up to the hill country, coming to the Eshcol Valley, ¹  which they scouted out.

When the men of Joseph spied out Bethel (it used to be called Luz),

So when Jacob heard that there was grain ¹  in Egypt, he sent our ancestors ²  there ³  the first time.

“Send out men to investigate ¹  the land of Canaan, which I am giving ²  to the Israelites. You are to send one man from each ancestral tribe, ³  each one a leader among them.”

The five men who had gone to spy out the land of Laish ¹  said to their kinsmen, ²  “Do you realize that inside these houses are an ephod, some personal idols, a carved image, and a metal image? Decide now what you want to do.”
