On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this victory song: ¹ 

For victory does not come from the east or west, or from the wilderness. ¹ 

the Lord’s right hand gives victory, ¹  the Lord’s right hand conquers.

A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory is from the Lord. ¹ 

for with guidance you wage your war, and with numerous advisers there is victory. ¹ 

for the Lord your God goes with you to fight on your behalf against your enemies to give you victory.” ¹ 

But Saul said, “No one will be killed on this day. For today the Lord has given Israel a victory!”

A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; ¹  despite its great strength, it cannot deliver.

¹ I say to the proud, “Do not be proud,” and to the wicked, “Do not be so confident of victory! ² 

I sent terror ¹  ahead of you to drive out before you the two ²  Amorite kings. I gave you the victory; it was not by your swords or bows. ³

Moses ¹  said, “It is not the sound of those who shout for victory, ²  nor is it the sound of those who cry because they are overcome, ³  but the sound of singing ⁴  I hear.” ⁵ 

He was very thirsty, so he cried out to the Lord and said, “You have given your servant ¹  this great victory. But now must I die of thirst and fall into hands of the Philistines?” ² 

So the victory of that day was turned to mourning as far as all the people were concerned. For the people heard on that day, “The king is grieved over his son.”

Hazael said, “How could your servant, who is as insignificant as a dog, accomplish this great military victory?” ¹  Elisha answered, “The Lord has revealed to me that you will be the king of Syria.” ² 

Elisha ¹  said, “Open the east window,” and he did so. ²  Elisha said, “Shoot!” and he did so. ³  Elisha ⁴  said, “This arrow symbolizes the victory the Lord will give you over Syria. ⁵  You will annihilate Syria in Aphek!” ⁶ 

The Lord who rules over all ¹  has solemnly sworn, ²  ‘I will fill your land with enemy soldiers. They will swarm over it like locusts. ³  They will raise up shouts of victory over it.’

You must fight ¹  until the Lord gives your countrymen victory ²  as he did you and they take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Then each of you may return to his own territory that I have given you.”
