who was formerly useless to you, but is now useful to you ¹  and me.

On the one hand a former command is set aside ¹  because it is weak and useless, ² 

But would you like evidence, ¹  you empty fellow, ²  that faith without works is useless? ³ 

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins.

But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, ¹  quarrels, and fights about the law, ²  because they are useless and empty.

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel – and not with clever speech, so that the cross of Christ would not become useless. ¹ 

nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies. ¹  Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plan ²  that operates by faith.

But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; ¹  its fate is to be burned.

So ¹  when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter somehow tempted you and our toil had proven useless.
