They ¹  are dark ²  because of ice; snow is piled ³  up over them. ⁴ 

If I wash myself with snow water, ¹  and make my hands clean with lye, ² 

For to the snow he says, ‘Fall ¹  to earth,’ and to the torrential rains, ²  ‘Pour down.’ ³ 

Have you entered the storehouse ¹  of the snow, or seen the armory ²  of the hail,

¹ The rain and snow fall from the sky and do not return, but instead water the earth and make it produce and yield crops, and provide seed for the planter and food for those who must eat.
