“Should not this ¹  abundance of words be answered, ²  or should this ³  talkative man ⁴  be vindicated? ⁵ 

I said to myself, ‘Age ¹  should speak, ²  and length of years ³  should make wisdom known.’

Therefore no fear of me should terrify you, nor should my pressure ¹  be heavy on you. ² 

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

Manoah said, “Now, when your announcement comes true, ¹  how should the child be raised and what should he do?” ² 

What is my strength, that I should wait? ¹  and what is my end, ²  that I should prolong my life?

What is man that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?

Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.”

They should gather all the excess food ¹  during these good years that are coming. By Pharaoh’s authority ²  they should store up grain so the cities will have food, ³  and they should preserve it. ⁴ 

Your thinking is perverse! ¹  Should the potter be regarded as clay? ²  Should the thing made say ³  about its maker, “He didn’t make me”? Or should the pottery say about the potter, “He doesn’t understand”?

¹ The Lord says, “Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. ²  Rich people should not boast that they are rich. ³ 

You should not ¹  have gloated ²  when your relatives ³  suffered calamity. ⁴  You should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah when they were destroyed. ⁵  You should not have boasted ⁶  when they suffered adversity. ⁷ 

You should not have entered the city ¹  of my people when they experienced distress. ²  You should not have joined ³  in gloating over their misfortune when they suffered distress. ⁴  You should not have looted ⁵  their wealth when they endured distress. ⁶ 

With what should I ¹  enter the Lord’s presence? With what ²  should I bow before the sovereign God? ³  Should I enter his presence with burnt offerings, with year-old calves?

Then Laban said to Jacob, “Should you work ¹  for me for nothing because you are my relative? ²  Tell me what your wages should be.”

Moses said ¹  to God, ²  “Who am I, that I should go ³  to Pharaoh, or that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

The most rewarded ¹  of women should be Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite! She should be the most rewarded of women who live in tents.

The Israelites went up to Bethel ¹  and asked God, ²  “Who should lead the charge against the Benjaminites?” ³  The Lord said, “Judah should lead.”

Moreover, whom should I serve? Should it not be his son? Just as I served your father, so I will serve you.” ¹ 

I should have been as though I had never existed; ¹  I should have been carried right from the womb to the grave!
