The hired hand, ¹  who is not a shepherd and does not own sheep, sees the wolf coming and abandons ²  the sheep and runs away. ³  So the wolf attacks ⁴  the sheep and scatters them.

The doorkeeper ¹  opens the door ²  for him, ³  and the sheep hear his voice. He ⁴  calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. ⁵ 

When he has brought all his own sheep ¹  out, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they recognize ²  his voice.

Go ¹  instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

So ¹  he answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

He ¹  will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

The one who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

“I am the good ¹  shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life ²  for the sheep.

Because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep, ¹  he runs away. ² 

But you refuse to believe because you are not my sheep.

My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are voracious wolves. ¹ 

“I ¹  am sending you out like sheep surrounded by wolves, ²  so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Now there is ¹  in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate ²  a pool called Bethzatha ³  in Aramaic, ⁴  which has five covered walkways. ⁵ 

So Jesus said to them again, “I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  I am the door for the sheep. ² 

All who came before me were ¹  thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. ² 

just as the Father knows me and I know the Father – and I lay down my life ¹  for ²  the sheep.

When ¹  he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were bewildered and helpless, ²  like sheep without a shepherd.

All ¹  the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
