But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ¹ 

I am not writing these things to shame you, but to correct you as my dear children.

I say this to your shame! Is there no one among you wise enough to settle disputes between fellow Christians? ¹ 

Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, they exult in their shame, and they think about earthly things. ¹ 

Sober up as you should, and stop sinning! For some have no knowledge of God – I say this to your shame!

For it says ¹  in scripture, “Look, I lay in Zion a stone, a chosen and priceless cornerstone, ²  and whoever believes ³  in him ⁴  will never ⁵  be put to shame.” ⁶ 

And now, little children, remain ¹  in him, ²  so that when ³  he appears we may have confidence and not shrink away from him in shame when he comes back. ⁴ 

wild sea waves, ¹  spewing out the foam of ²  their shame; ³  wayward stars ⁴  for whom the utter depths of eternal darkness ⁵  have been reserved.

just as it is written, “Look, I am laying in Zion a stone that will cause people to stumble and a rock that will make them fall, ¹  yet the one who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ² 

Yet do it with courtesy and respect, ¹  keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you. ² 

keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. ¹
