so much that he promised with an oath ¹  to give her whatever she asked.

as he promised ¹  to our ancestors, ²  to Abraham and to his descendants ³  forever.”

This gospel ¹  he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

He was ¹  fully convinced that what God ²  promised he was also able to do.

in hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the ages began. ¹ 

Through faith they conquered kingdoms, administered justice, ¹  gained what was promised, ²  shut the mouths of lions,

And these all were commended ¹  for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. ² 

He went ¹  to be registered with Mary, who was promised in marriage to him, ²  and who was expecting a child.

From the descendants ¹  of this man ²  God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, just as he promised. ³ 

For you need endurance in order to do God’s will and so receive what is promised. ¹ 

When they heard this, they were delighted ¹  and promised to give him money. ²  So ³  Judas ⁴  began looking for an opportunity to betray him.

And look, I am sending you ¹  what my Father promised. ²  But stay in the city ³  until you have been clothed with power ⁴  from on high.”

While he was with them, ¹  he declared, ²  “Do not leave Jerusalem, ³  but wait there ⁴  for what my ⁵  Father promised, ⁶  which you heard about from me. ⁷ 

For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy, because I promised you in marriage to one husband, ¹  to present you as a pure ²  virgin to Christ.

Then his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven too.” ¹ 

and saying, ¹  “Where is his promised return? ²  For ever since ³  our ancestors ⁴  died, ⁵  all things have continued as they were ⁶  from the beginning of creation.”

And when ¹  you heard the word of truth (the gospel of your salvation) – when you believed in Christ ²  – you were marked with the seal ³  of the promised Holy Spirit, ⁴ 

And so he is the mediator ¹  of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, ²  since he died ³  to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.

By faith he lived as a foreigner ¹  in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs ²  of the same promise.

These all died in faith without receiving the things promised, ¹  but they saw them in the distance and welcomed them and acknowledged that they were strangers and foreigners ²  on the earth.
