Therefore produce fruit ¹  that proves your ²  repentance,

Can a fig tree produce olives, my brothers and sisters, ¹  or a vine produce figs? Neither can a salt water spring produce fresh water.

Other seed fell among the thorns, ¹  and they grew up and choked it, ²  and it did not produce grain.

For this reason I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people ¹  who will produce its fruit.

Even now the ax is laid at ¹  the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

Therefore produce ¹  fruit ²  that proves your repentance, and don’t begin to say ³  to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ ⁴  For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones! ⁵
