“Listen, you deaf ones! Take notice, ¹  you blind ones!

What then would be one’s lot from God above, one’s heritage from the Almighty ¹  on high?

He watches over ¹  his holy ones, ²  but the wicked are made speechless in the darkness, for it is not by one’s own strength that one prevails.

A good reputation ¹  is better ²  than precious ³  perfume; ⁴  likewise, ⁵  the day of one’s ⁶  death ⁷  is better than the day of one’s birth. ⁸ 

Tremble, you complacent ones! Shake with fear, you carefree ones! Strip off your clothes and expose yourselves – put sackcloth on your waist! ¹ 

These are the ones you may not eat: the eagle, ¹  the vulture, ²  the black vulture, ³ 

saying, ¹  “Don’t touch my anointed ones! Don’t harm my prophets!”

They allow their children to run ¹  like a flock; their little ones dance about.

And its young ones devour the blood, and where the dead carcasses ¹  are, there it is.”

would not God discover it, for he knows ¹  one’s thoughts? ² 

Deliver by your power ¹  and answer me, ²  so that the ones you love may be safe. ³ 

Then he will judge ¹  your people fairly, and your oppressed ones ²  equitably.

Man ate the food of the mighty ones. ¹  He sent them more than enough to eat. ² 

They carefully plot ¹  against your people, and make plans to harm ²  the ones you cherish. ³ 

You godly ones, rejoice in the Lord! Give thanks to his holy name. ¹ 

saying, ¹  “Don’t touch my chosen ²  ones! Don’t harm my prophets!”

When he led his people out, they rejoiced; his chosen ones shouted with joy. ¹ 

Deliver by your power ¹  and answer me, so that the ones you love may be safe. ² 

Sons born during one’s youth are like arrows in a warrior’s hand. ¹ 

to guard ¹  the paths of the righteous ²  and to protect ³  the way of his pious ones. ⁴
