They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods they had not known; to new gods who had recently come along, gods your ancestors ¹  had not known about.

What follows is the account of Esau (also known as Edom). ¹ 

So Esau (also known as Edom) lived in the hill country of Seir. ¹ 

These were the sons of Esau (also known as Edom), and these were their chiefs.

Give thanks to the Lord! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations!

From the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (also known as Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

For this reason these days are known as Purim, after the name of pur.

I said to myself, ‘Age ¹  should speak, ²  and length of years ³  should make wisdom known.’

Give thanks to the Lord! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations!

A fool’s annoyance ¹  is known at once, ²  but the prudent ³  overlooks ⁴  an insult.

“Proclaim ¹  this message among the descendants of Jacob. ²  Make it known throughout Judah.

Select wise and practical ¹  men, those known among your tribes, whom I may appoint as your leaders.”

You made known to them your holy Sabbath; you issued commandments, statutes, and law to them through ¹  Moses your servant.

Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning; it is known ¹  even in the heart ²  of fools.

Even a young man ¹  is known ²  by his actions, whether his activity is pure and whether it is right. ³ 

So that ¹  your confidence may be in the Lord, I am making them known to you today ²  – even you.

Her husband is well-known ¹  in the city gate ²  when he sits with the elders ³  of the land.

Sing to the Lord, for he has done magnificent things, let this be known ¹  throughout the earth!

I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as ¹  God Almighty, ²  but by ³  my name ‘the Lord’ ⁴  I was not known to them. ⁵ 

warn ¹  them of the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they must walk ²  and the work they must do. ³
