His servants ¹  dug another well, but they quarreled over it too, so Isaac named it ²  Sitnah. ³ 

He replied, “You must take these seven ewe lambs from my hand as legal proof ¹  that I dug this well.” ² 

When Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well with fresh flowing ¹  water there,

I did not harm them, but they hid a net to catch me and dug a pit to trap me. ¹ 

I dug wells and drank water. ¹  With the soles of my feet I dried up all the rivers of Egypt.’

So the Philistines took dirt and filled up ¹  all the wells that his father’s servants had dug back in the days of his father Abraham.

Then Isaac built an altar there and worshiped ¹  the Lord. He pitched his tent there, and his servants dug a well. ² 

That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. “We’ve found water,” they reported. ¹ 

All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, ¹  because they could not drink the water of the Nile.

The well which the princes ¹  dug, which the leaders of the people opened with their scepters and their staffs.” And from the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;

I dug wells and drank water in foreign lands. ¹  With the soles of my feet I dried up all the rivers of Egypt.’

They have prepared a net to trap me; ¹  I am discouraged. ²  They have dug a pit for me. ³  They will fall ⁴  into it! (Selah)

“Listen to me, you who pursue godliness, ¹  who seek the Lord! Look at the rock from which you were chiseled, at the quarry ²  from which you were dug! ³ 

He said to me, “Son of man, dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall and discovered a doorway.

But the one who had received one talent went out and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money in it.

Isaac reopened ¹  the wells that had been dug ²  back in the days of his father Abraham, for the Philistines had stopped them up ³  after Abraham died. Isaac ⁴  gave these wells ⁵  the same names his father had given them. ⁶ 

Then he moved away from there and dug another well. They did not quarrel over it, so Isaac ¹  named it ²  Rehoboth, ³  saying, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we will prosper in the land.”

He built towers in the desert and dug many cisterns, for he owned many herds in the lowlands ¹  and on the plain. He had workers in the fields and vineyards in the hills and in Carmel, ²  for he loved agriculture. ³ 

“Do so because my people have committed a double wrong: they have rejected me, the fountain of life-giving water, ¹  and they have dug cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns which cannot even hold water.”

So I went to Perath and dug up ¹  the shorts from the place where I had buried them. I found ²  that they were ruined; they were good for nothing.
