As ¹  water disappears from the sea, ²  or a river drains away and dries up,

in the morning it glistens ¹  and sprouts up; at evening time it withers ²  and dries up.

A cheerful heart ¹  brings good healing, ²  but a crushed spirit ³  dries up the bones. ⁴ 

The new wine dries up, the vines shrivel up, all those who like to celebrate ¹  groan.

The grass dries up, the flowers wither, but the decree of our God is forever reliable.” ¹ 

Justice must flow like torrents of water, righteous actions ¹  like a stream that never dries up.

The grass dries up, the flowers wither, when the wind sent by the Lord ¹  blows on them. Surely humanity ²  is like grass.

If anyone does not remain ¹  in me, he is thrown out like a branch, and dries up; and such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, ²  and are burned up. ³ 

For the sun rises with its heat and dries up the meadow; the petal of the flower falls off and its beauty is lost forever. ¹  So also the rich person in the midst of his pursuits will wither away.
