All these evils come from within and defile a person.”

“‘By these ¹  you defile yourselves; anyone who touches their carcass will be unclean until the evening,

He must not defile himself as a husband among his people so as to profane himself. ¹ 

But Daniel made up his mind ¹  that he would not defile ²  himself with the royal delicacies or the royal wine. ³  He therefore asked the overseer of the court officials for permission not to defile himself.

and his virgin sister who is near to him, ¹  who has no husband; he may defile himself for her.

“‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things, for the nations which I am about to drive out before you ¹  have been defiled with all these things.

So do not make the land vomit you out because you defile it ¹  just as it has vomited out the nations ²  that were before you.

He must not go where there is any dead person; ¹  he must not defile himself even for his father and his mother.

You must expel both men and women; you must put them outside the camp, so that ¹  they will not defile their camps, among which I live.”

Therefore do not defile the land that you will inhabit, in which I live, for I the Lord live among the Israelites.”

He said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courtyards with corpses. Go!” So they went out and struck people down throughout the city.

He does not eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains, does not pray to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor’s wife,

“‘But I said to their children ¹  in the wilderness, “Do not follow the practices of your fathers; do not observe their regulations, ²  nor defile yourselves with their idols.

“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: Will you defile yourselves like your fathers ¹  and engage in prostitution with detestable idols?

“‘They must not come near a dead person or they will be defiled; ¹  however, for father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister, they may defile themselves.
