People ¹  do not light a lamp and put it under a basket ²  but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.

But his disciples took him at night and let him down through an opening ¹  in the wall by lowering him in a basket. ² 

but I was let down in a rope-basket ¹  through a window in the city wall, and escaped his hands.

He also said to them, “A lamp ¹  isn’t brought to be put under a basket ²  or under a bed, is it? Isn’t it to be placed on a lampstand?

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a hidden place ¹  or under a basket, ²  but on a lampstand, so that those who come in can see the light.
