David sent scouts and verified that Saul had indeed arrived. ¹ 

From there they traveled through the Ephraimite hill country and arrived at Micah’s house.

Now the day before Saul arrived, the Lord had told ¹  Samuel:

Now the Philistines had arrived and spread out in the valley of Rephaim.

So David’s friend Hushai arrived in the city, just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.

So the messenger departed. When he arrived, he informed David of all the news that Joab had sent with him.
