The intentions of the heart ¹  belong to a man, ²  but the answer of the tongue ³  comes from ⁴  the Lord. ⁵ 

A gentle response ¹  turns away anger, but a harsh word ²  stirs up wrath. ³ 

A servant ¹  cannot be corrected ²  by words, for although ³  he understands, there is no answer. ⁴ 

The everlasting God is a refuge, and underneath you are his eternal arms; ¹  he has driven out enemies before you, and has said, “Destroy!”

With Job’s ¹  three friends he was also angry, because they could not find ²  an answer, and so declared Job guilty. ³ 

But when Elihu saw ¹  that the three men had no further reply, ²  he became very angry.

The prophets ¹  will be ashamed; the omen readers will be humiliated. All of them will cover their mouths, ²  for they will receive no divine oracles.” ³ 

In this initial skirmish Jonathan and his armor bearer struck down about twenty men in an area that measured half an acre.

For he does not think ¹  much about the fleeting ²  days of his life because God keeps him preoccupied ³  with the joy he derives from his activity. ⁴
