A person’s gift 1 makes room for him, and leads him 2 before important people.
Many people entreat the favor 1 of a generous person, 2 and everyone is the friend 3 of the person who gives gifts. 4
A gift given 1 in secret subdues 2 anger, and a bribe given secretly 3 subdues 4 strong wrath. 5
