If a ransom is set for him, ¹  then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him.

Your very best valleys were full of chariots; ¹  horsemen confidently took their positions ²  at the gate.

Surely ¹  you put them in slippery places; you bring them down ²  to ruin.

You place me in the lowest regions of the pit, ¹  in the dark places, in the watery depths.

You are aware of our sins; ¹  you even know about our hidden sins. ² 

You squeeze me in from behind and in front; you place your hand on me.

The one who hates others disguises ¹  it with his lips, but he stores up ²  deceit within him. ³ 

He shrouded himself in darkness, ¹  in thick rain clouds. ² 

“What is mankind ¹  that you make so much of them, ²  and that you pay attention ³  to them?

Nor is there an arbiter ¹  between us, who ²  might lay ³  his hand on us both, ⁴ 

and throw ¹  your gold ²  in the dust – your gold ³  of Ophir among the rocks in the ravines –

you appoint them to rule over your creation; ¹  you have placed ²  everything under their authority, ³ 

They attack me, now they surround me; ¹  they intend to throw me to the ground. ² 

For you make them retreat ¹  when you shoot your arrows at them. ² 

O my God, make them like dead thistles, ¹  like dead weeds blown away by ²  the wind!

O Lord, place a guard on my mouth! Protect the opening ¹  of my lips! ² 

Incline your ear ²  and listen to the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my instruction. ³ 

When I saw this, I gave careful consideration to it; ¹  I received instruction from what I saw: ² 

Pay careful attention to ¹  the condition of your flocks, ²  give careful attention ³  to your herds,

I have appointed a time to reap judgment ¹  for you also, O Judah!Whenever I want to restore the fortunes of my people, ²
