The king is strong; he loves justice. ¹  You ensure that legal decisions will be made fairly; ²  you promote justice and equity in Jacob.

He will give discernment to the one who makes judicial decisions, and strength to those who defend the city from attackers. ¹ 

¹ “These are the decisions that you will set before them:

“You must not turn away justice for your poor people in their lawsuits.

He then presented the burnt offering, and did it according to the standard regulation. ¹ 

So Moses brought their case before the Lord.

He is the Lord our God; he carries out judgment throughout the earth. ¹ 

Is it because of your piety ¹  that he rebukes you and goes to judgment with you? ² 

I would lay out my case ¹  before him and fill my mouth with arguments.

I put on righteousness and it clothed me, ¹  my just dealing ²  was like a robe and a turban;

It is not the aged ¹  who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right.

“Do you think this to be ¹  just: when ²  you say, ‘My right before God.’ ³ 

He does not allow the wicked to live, ¹  but he gives justice to the poor.

But now you are preoccupied with the judgment due the wicked, judgment and justice take hold of you.

Would you indeed annul ¹  my justice? Would you declare me guilty so that you might be right?

Make a just decision on my behalf! ¹  Decide what is right! ² 

May he show ¹  the humble what is right! ²  May he teach ³  the humble his way!

Rouse yourself, wake up ¹  and vindicate me! ²  My God and Lord, defend my just cause! ³ 

He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause. ¹ 

Then he will judge ¹  your people fairly, and your oppressed ones ²  equitably.
