A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax, ¹ 

“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax,

Little by little ¹  I will drive them out before you, until you become fruitful and inherit the land.

Are not my days few? ¹  Cease, ²  then, and leave ³  me alone, ⁴  that I may find a little comfort, ⁵ 

When they were few in number, just a very few, and foreign residents within it,

The little bit that a godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men, ¹ 

When they were few in number, just a very few, and resident aliens within it,

May his days be few! ¹  May another take his job! ² 

He, ¹  the God who leads you, will expel the nations little by little. You will not be allowed to destroy them all at once lest the wild animals overrun you.

“Then our father said, ‘Go back and buy us a little food.’

Their inheritance must be apportioned ¹  by lot among the larger and smaller groups.

Are God’s consolations ¹  too trivial for you; ²  or a word spoken ³  in gentleness to you?

for I do not know how to give honorary titles, ¹  if I did, ²  my Creator would quickly do away with me. ³ 

and make them a little less than the heavenly beings? ¹  You grant mankind ²  honor and majesty; ³ 

Evil men will soon disappear; ¹  you will stare at the spot where they once were, but they will be gone. ² 

But as for me, my feet almost slipped; my feet almost slid out from under me. ¹ 

Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack ¹  their adversaries.”

If the Lord had not helped me, I would have laid down in the silence of death. ¹ 

They have almost destroyed me here on the earth, but I do not reject your precepts.

I almost ¹  came to complete ruin ²  in the midst of the whole congregation!” ³
