Because of the anxiety that makes me groan, my bones protrude from my skin. ¹ 

My bones stick to my skin and my flesh; ¹  I have escaped ²  alive ³  with only the skin of my teeth.

Night pierces ¹  my bones; ²  my gnawing pains ³  never cease.

When I refused to confess my sin, ¹  my whole body wasted away, ²  while I groaned in pain all day long.

Then Laban said to him, “You are indeed my own flesh and blood.” ¹  So Jacob ²  stayed with him for a month. ³ 

You are my brothers – my very own flesh and blood! ¹  Why should you delay any further in bringing the king back?’

Have mercy on me, ¹  Lord, for I am frail! Heal me, Lord, for my bones are shaking! ² 

my bones were not hidden from you, when ¹  I was made in secret and sewed together in the depths of the earth. ² 

Say to Amasa, ‘Are you not my flesh and blood? ¹  God will punish me severely, ²  if from this time on you are not the commander of my army in place of Joab!’”
