Did not the one who made me in the womb make them? ¹  Did not the same one form us in the womb?

The sea is his, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land.

The one who oppresses ¹  the poor insults ²  his Creator, but whoever shows favor ³  to the needy honors him.

The one who mocks the poor ¹  insults ²  his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

But Jeshurun ¹  became fat and kicked, you ²  got fat, thick, and stuffed! Then he deserted the God who made him, and treated the Rock who saved him with contempt.

At that time ¹  men will trust in their creator; ²  they will depend on ³  the Holy One of Israel. ⁴ 

You will surely wear out, ¹  both you and these people who are with you, for this is too ²  heavy a burden ³  for you; you are not able to do it by yourself.

A man uses it to make a fire; ¹  he takes some of it and warms himself. Yes, he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Then he makes a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it. ² 

That idol was made by a workman – it is not God! The calf idol of Samaria will be broken to bits.

Israel has forgotten his Maker and built royal palaces, and Judah has built many fortified cities. But I will send fire on their cities; it will consume their royal citadels.

When its branches get brittle, ¹  they break; women come and use them for kindling. ²  For these people lack understanding, ³  therefore the one who made them has no compassion on them; the one who formed them has no mercy on them.
