He deprives the trusted advisers ¹  of speech ²  and takes away the discernment ³  of elders.

The whole earth ¹  had a common language and a common vocabulary. ² 

There was an opening in the center of the robe, like the opening of a collar, with an edge all around the opening so that it could not be torn.

For with mocking lips and a foreign tongue he will speak to these people. ¹ 

There is to be an opening ¹  in its top ²  in the center of it, with an edge all around the opening, the work of a weaver, ³  like the opening of a collar, ⁴  so that it cannot be torn. ⁵ 

You will no longer see a defiant ¹  people whose language you do not comprehend, ²  whose derisive speech you do not understand. ³ 

For you are not being sent to a people of unintelligible speech ¹  and difficult language, ²  but ³  to the house of Israel –

Know for sure that I will then enable the nations to give me acceptable praise. ¹  All of them will invoke the Lord’s name when they pray, ²  and will worship him in unison. ³ 

not to many peoples of unintelligible speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand ¹  – surely if ²  I had sent you to them, they would listen to you!
