what wise men declare, hiding nothing, from the tradition of ¹  their ancestors, ² 

I then said, “I will not shepherd you. What is to die, let it die, and what is to be eradicated, let it be eradicated. As for those who survive, let them eat each other’s flesh!”

“If ¹  evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue, ² 

‘Surely our enemies ¹  are destroyed, and fire consumes their wealth.’

This sin caused Jeroboam’s dynasty ¹  to come to an end and to be destroyed from the face of the earth.

Call to mind now: ¹  Who, ²  being innocent, ever perished? ³  And where were upright people ⁴  ever destroyed? ⁵ 

Then I would yet have my comfort, ¹  then ²  I would rejoice, ³  in spite of pitiless pain, ⁴  for ⁵  I have not concealed the words ⁶  of the Holy One. ⁷ 

he lived in ruined towns ¹  and in houses where ²  no one lives, where they are ready to crumble into heaps. ³ 

I will teach you ¹  about the power ²  of God; What is on the Almighty’s mind ³  I will not conceal.

O God, you are aware of my foolish sins; ¹  my guilt is not hidden from you. ² 

we will not hide from their ¹  descendants. We will tell the next generation about the Lord’s praiseworthy acts, ²  about his strength and the amazing things he has done.

They say, “Come on, let’s annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! ¹  Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more.”

my bones were not hidden from you, when ¹  I was made in secret and sewed together in the depths of the earth. ² 

Eli ¹  said, “What message did he speak to you? Don’t conceal it from me. God will judge you severely ²  if you conceal from me anything that he said to you!”

For by now I could have stretched out ¹  my hand and struck you and your people with plague, and you would have been destroyed ²  from the earth.

For my angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I will destroy them completely. ¹ 

So Samuel told him everything. He did not hold back anything from him. Eli ¹  said, “The Lord will do what he pleases.” ² 

If I had acted at risk of my own life ¹  – and nothing is hidden from the king! – you would have abandoned me.” ² 

I have not failed to tell about your justice; ¹  I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness. ² 

The look on their faces ¹  testifies to their guilt; ²  like the people of Sodom they openly boast of their sin. ³  Too bad for them! ⁴  For they bring disaster on themselves.
