But examine all things; hold fast to what is good.

And so ¹  you know what holds him back, ²  so that he will be revealed in his own time.

And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy.

I praise you ¹  because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

and by which you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message I preached to you – unless you believed in vain.

as sorrowful, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

For the hidden power of lawlessness ¹  is already at work. However, the one who holds him back ²  will do so until he is taken out of the way,

I wanted to keep him so that he could serve me in your place ¹  during ²  my imprisonment for the sake of the gospel. ³ 

For we have become partners with Christ, if in fact we hold our initial confidence ¹  firm until the end.

But as for the seed that landed on good soil, these are the ones who, after hearing ¹  the word, cling to it ²  with an honest and good ³  heart, and bear fruit with steadfast endurance. ⁴ 

So ¹  the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this man your place.’ Then, ashamed, ²  you will begin to move to the least important ³  place.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people ¹  who suppress the truth by their ²  unrighteousness, ³ 

But now we have been released from the law, because we have died ¹  to what controlled us, so that we may serve in the new life of the Spirit and not under the old written code. ² 

those with tears like those not weeping, those who rejoice like those not rejoicing, those who buy like those without possessions,

The next morning ¹  Jesus ²  departed and went to a deserted place. Yet ³  the crowds were seeking him, and they came to him and tried to keep him from leaving them.

So they slipped ¹  the anchors ²  and left them in the sea, at the same time loosening the linkage ³  that bound the steering oars ⁴  together. Then they hoisted ⁵  the foresail ⁶  to the wind and steered toward ⁷  the beach.

But Christ ¹  is faithful as a son over God’s ²  house. We are of his house, ³  if in fact we hold firmly ⁴  to our confidence and the hope we take pride in. ⁵
