For some time ago 1 Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men joined him. He 2 was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and nothing came of it. 3
After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census, 1 and incited people to follow him in revolt. 2 He too was killed, and all who followed him were scattered.
For all who 1 rely on doing the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the book of the law.” 2
But to the rest of you in Thyatira, all who do not hold to this teaching 1 (who have not learned the so-called “deep secrets 2 of Satan”), to you I say: I do not put any additional burden on you.
The second beast 1 was empowered 2 to give life 3 to the image of the first beast 4 so that it could speak, and could cause all those who did not worship the image of the beast to be killed.
because in a single hour such great wealth has been destroyed!” 1 And every ship’s captain, 2 and all who sail along the coast 3 – seamen, and all who 4 make their living from the sea, stood a long way off
And wherever he would go – into villages, towns, or countryside – they would place the sick in the marketplaces, and would ask him if 1 they could just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
