We must perform the deeds ¹  of the one who sent me ²  as long as ³  it is daytime. Night is coming when no one can work.

to aspire to lead a quiet life, to attend to your own business, and to work with your hands, as we commanded you.

For even when we were with you, we used to give you this command: “If anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat.”

But the president of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the crowd, “There are six days on which work ¹  should be done! ²  So come ³  and be healed on those days, and not on the Sabbath day.”
