For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain.

Now godliness combined with contentment brings great profit.

Such ¹  are the ways ²  of all who gain profit unjustly; ³  it ⁴  takes away the life ⁵  of those who obtain it! ⁶ 

For what benefit is it for a person ¹  to gain the whole world, yet ²  forfeit his life?

For what does it benefit a person ¹  if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself?

Treasures gained by wickedness ¹  do not profit, but righteousness ²  delivers from mortal danger. ³ 

For her ¹  benefit ²  is more profitable ³  than silver, and her ⁴  gain ⁵  is better ⁶  than gold.

What benefit can a worker ¹  gain from his toil? ² 

Give me a desire for your rules, ¹  rather than for wealth gained unjustly. ² 

An inheritance gained easily ¹  in the beginning will not be blessed ²  in the end. ³ 

By your endurance ¹  you will gain ²  your lives. ³ 

Listen, children, ²  to a father’s instruction, ³  and pay attention so that ⁴  you may gain ⁵  discernment.

The one who is greedy for gain ¹  troubles ²  his household, ³  but whoever hates bribes ⁴  will live.

Bread gained by deceit ¹  tastes sweet to a person, ²  but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel. ³ 

The heart of her husband has confidence ¹  in her, and he has no lack of gain. ² 

In the same way, the one who had two gained two more.

But these assets I have come to regard as liabilities because of Christ.

For what does it benefit a person ¹  if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life?

Is it of any special benefit ¹  to the Almighty that you should be righteous, or is it any gain to him that you make your ways blameless? ² 

The king replied, “I know for sure that you are attempting to gain time, because you see that my decision is firm.
