Terrors ¹  frighten him on all sides and dog ²  his every step.

But they were startled and terrified, thinking ¹  they saw a ghost. ² 

I do not want to seem as though I am trying to terrify you with my letters,

Then the dead bodies of these people will be left on the ground for the birds and wild animals to eat. ¹  There will not be any survivors to scare them away.

They called out loudly in the Judahite dialect to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, trying to scare and terrify them so they could seize the city.

Then the local people ¹  began to discourage ²  the people of Judah and to dishearten them from building.

The ¹  guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of him.

The police officers reported these words to the magistrates. They were frightened when they heard Paul and Silas ¹  were Roman citizens ² 

Foreigners lose their courage; ¹  they shake with fear ²  as they leave ³  their strongholds. ⁴

I saw a dream that ¹  frightened me badly. The things I imagined while lying on my bed – these visions of my mind – were terrifying me.

But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink, he cried out, ¹  “Lord, save me!”
