The wicked person ¹  earns ²  deceitful wages, ³  but the one who sows ⁴  righteousness reaps ⁵  a genuine ⁶  reward. ⁷ 

Now such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and so provide their own food to eat. ¹ 

She considers ¹  a field and buys it; from her own income ²  she plants a vineyard.

The reward ¹  which the righteous receive ²  is life; the recompense ³  which the wicked receive ⁴  is judgment. ⁵ 

You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but are never filled. You drink, but are still thirsty. You put on clothes, but are not warm. Those who earn wages end up with holes in their money bags.’” ¹ 

So ¹  the first one came before him and said, ‘Sir, ²  your mina ³  has made ten minas more.’

Then ¹  the second one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has made five minas.’

You must never bring the pay of a female prostitute ¹  or the wage of a male prostitute ²  into the temple of the Lord your God in fulfillment of any vow, for both of these are abhorrent to the Lord your God.

Amaziah then said to Amos, “Leave, you visionary! ¹  Run away to the land of Judah! Earn your living ²  and prophesy there!

All her carved idols will be smashed to pieces; all her metal cult statues will be destroyed by fire. ¹  I will make a waste heap ²  of all her images. Since ³  she gathered the metal ⁴  as a prostitute collects her wages, the idols will become a prostitute’s wages again.” ⁵ 

Why pay money for something that will not nourish you? ¹  Why spend ²  your hard-earned money ³  on something that will not satisfy? Listen carefully ⁴  to me and eat what is nourishing! ⁵  Enjoy fine food! ⁶ 

You must not charge interest on a loan to your fellow Israelite, ¹  whether on money, food, or anything else that has been loaned with interest.

If a man has no redeemer, but he prospers ¹  and gains enough for its redemption, ² 

May the creditor seize ¹  all he owns! May strangers loot his property! ² 

Then you will find ¹  favor and good understanding, ²  in the sight of God and people. ³ 

lest strangers devour ¹  your strength, ²  and your labor ³  benefit ⁴  another man’s house.

Wealth gained quickly ¹  will dwindle away, ²  but the one who gathers it little by little ³  will become rich. ⁴ 

The king shows favor ¹  to a wise ²  servant, but his wrath falls ³  on one who acts shamefully.

In the house ¹  of the righteous is abundant wealth, ²  but the income of the wicked brings trouble. ³ 

A person’s wisdom ¹  makes him slow to anger, ²  and it is his glory ³  to overlook ⁴  an offense.
