My eyes have grown dim ¹  with grief; my whole frame ²  is but a shadow.

Because of this, our hearts are sick; ¹  because of these things, we can hardly see ²  through our tears. ³ 

Eyes ¹  will no longer be blind ²  and ears ³  will be attentive.

Now Eli was ninety-eight years old and his eyes looked straight ahead; ¹  he was unable to see.

Eli’s eyes had begun to fail, so that he was unable to see well. At that time he was lying down in his place,

when those who keep watch over the house ¹  begin to tremble, ²  and the virile men begin to stoop over, ³  and the grinders ⁴  begin to cease because they grow few, and those who look through the windows grow dim, ⁵ 

Now Israel’s eyes were failing ¹  because of his age; he was not able to see well. So Joseph ²  brought his sons ³  near to him, and his father ⁴  kissed them and embraced them.

A crushed reed he will not break, a dim wick he will not extinguish; ¹  he will faithfully make just decrees. ² 

א (Alef) ¹ Alas! ²  Gold has lost its luster; ³  pure gold loses value. ⁴  Jewels ⁵  are scattered on every street corner. ⁶ 

When ¹  Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he was almost blind, ²  he called his older ³  son Esau and said to him, “My son!” “Here I am!” Esau ⁴  replied.

Moses was 120 years old when he died, but his eye was not dull ¹  nor had his vitality ²  departed.

My eyes grow weak because of oppression. I call out to you, O Lord, all day long; I spread out my hands in prayer to you. ¹ 

For now we see in a mirror indirectly, ¹  but then we will see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known.

My eyes ¹  grow dim ²  from suffering; they grow weak ³  because of all my enemies. ⁴ 

before the sun and the light ¹  of the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds disappear ²  after the rain;

Jeroboam’s wife did as she was told. She went to Shiloh and visited Ahijah. ¹  Now Ahijah could not see; he had lost his eyesight in his old age. ² 

my face is reddened ¹  because of weeping, ²  and on my eyelids there is a deep darkness, ³ 

I am exhausted from shouting for help; my throat is sore; ¹  my eyes grow tired of looking for my God. ² 

May their eyes be blinded! ¹  Make them shake violently! ² 

When one looks out over the land, he sees ¹  distress and darkness, gloom ²  and anxiety, darkness and people forced from the land. ³
