Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and the flute!

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.

Now David, wearing a linen ephod, was dancing with all his strength before the Lord. ¹ 

Let them praise his name with dancing! Let them sing praises to him to the accompaniment of the tambourine and harp!

Our hearts no longer have any joy; ¹  our dancing is turned to mourning.

But on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod,

They allow their children to run ¹  like a flock; their little ones dance about.

Strength lodges in its neck, and despair ¹  runs before it.

and keep your eyes open. ¹  When you see ²  the daughters of Shiloh coming out to dance in the celebration, ³  jump out from the vineyards. Each one of you, catch yourself a wife from among the daughters of Shiloh and then go home to the land of Benjamin.

Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a hand-drum in her hand, and all the women went out after her with hand-drums and with dances. ¹ 

Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. ¹ 

The Lord says, ¹  “At that time young women will dance and be glad. Young men and old men will rejoice. ²  I will turn their grief into gladness. I will give them comfort and joy in place of their sorrow.

“Now his older son was in the field. As ¹  he came and approached the house, he heard music ²  and dancing.

I will rebuild you, my dear children Israel, ¹  so that you will once again be built up. Once again you will take up the tambourine and join in the happy throng of dancers. ² 

‘We played the flute for you, yet you did not dance; ¹  we wailed in mourning, ²  yet you did not weep.’

When he approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses became extremely angry. ¹  He threw the tablets from his hands and broke them to pieces at the bottom of the mountain. ² 

When Jephthah came home to Mizpah, there was his daughter hurrying out ¹  to meet him, dancing to the rhythm of tambourines. ²  She was his only child; except for her he had no son or daughter.

When the men ¹  arrived after David returned from striking down the Philistine, the women from all the cities of Israel came out singing and dancing to meet King Saul. They were happy as they played their tambourines and three-stringed instruments. ²
