Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and became anguished and distressed.

Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat ¹  with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Then ²  he called them.

Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, and kneeling down she asked him for a favor. ¹ 

Going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother in their ¹  boat mending nets.

to James and his brother John, the sons of Zebedee, ¹  he gave the name Boanerges (that is, “sons of thunder”);

Now these are the names of the twelve apostles: ¹  first, Simon ²  (called Peter), and Andrew his brother; James son of Zebedee and John his brother;

Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Then ¹  James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”

Simon Peter, Thomas ¹  (called Didymus), ²  Nathanael ³  (who was from Cana ⁴  in Galilee), the sons ⁵  of Zebedee, ⁶  and two other disciples ⁷  of his were together.

and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s business partners. ¹  Then ²  Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on ³  you will be catching people.” ⁴
