The name of the third river is Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria. ¹  The fourth river is the Euphrates.

That day the Lord made a covenant ¹  with Abram: “To your descendants I give ²  this land, from the river of Egypt ³  to the great river, the Euphrates River –

May he rule ¹  from sea to sea, ²  and from the Euphrates River ³  to the ends of the earth!

He turned their rivers into blood, and they could not drink from their streams.

Its branches reached the Mediterranean Sea, ¹  and its shoots the Euphrates River. ² 

The land of buzzing wings is as good as dead, ¹  the one beyond the rivers of Cush,

The water of the sea will be dried up, and the river will dry up and be empty. ¹ 

Now ¹  a river flows ²  from Eden ³  to water the orchard, and from there it divides ⁴  into four headstreams. ⁵ 

As ¹  water disappears from the sea, ²  or a river drains away and dries up,

He turned ¹  streams into a desert, springs of water into arid land,

Fish ¹  in the Nile will die, the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable ²  to drink water from the Nile.”’”

When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river ¹  succeeded him.

who says to the deep sea, ‘Be dry! I will dry up your sea currents,’

The sluice gates ¹  are opened; the royal palace is deluged ²  and dissolves. ³ 

Again he measured 1,750 feet and it was a river I could not cross, for the water had risen; it was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be crossed.

The river’s channels bring joy to the city of God, ¹  the special, holy dwelling place of ²  the sovereign One. ³ 

and he was baptizing them ¹  in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.

Every place you set your foot ¹  will be yours; your border will extend from the desert to Lebanon and from the River (that is, the Euphrates) as far as the Mediterranean Sea. ² 

Your territory will extend from the wilderness in the south to Lebanon in the north. It will extend all the way to the great River Euphrates in the east (including all of Syria) ¹  and all the way to the Mediterranean Sea ²  in the west. ³
