They will besiege all of your villages ¹  until all of your high and fortified walls collapse – those in which you put your confidence throughout the land. They will besiege all your villages throughout the land the Lord your God has given you.

Perhaps you will tell me, ‘We are trusting in the Lord our God.’ But Hezekiah is the one who eliminated his high places and altars and then told the people of Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship at this altar in Jerusalem.’

They will eat up your crops and your food. They will kill off ¹  your sons and your daughters. They will eat up your sheep and your cattle. They will destroy your vines and your fig trees. ²  Their weapons will batter down ³  the fortified cities you trust in.

Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough ¹  to show me as holy ²  before ³  the Israelites, therefore you will not bring this community into the land I have given them.” ⁴ 

Gaal son of Ebed ¹  came through Shechem with his brothers. The leaders of Shechem transferred their loyalty to him. ² 

Mattithiah, a Levite, the firstborn son ¹  of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of baking the bread for offerings.

Can you count on ¹  it to bring in ²  your grain, ³  and gather the grain ⁴  to your threshing floor? ⁵ 

Then they will place their confidence in God. They will not forget the works of God, and they will obey ¹  his commands.

The people of Moab will be disappointed by their god Chemosh. They will be as disappointed as the people of Israel were when they put their trust in the calf god at Bethel. ¹ 

But Jesus, paying no attention to what was said, told the synagogue ruler, “Do not be afraid; just believe.”

The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.

But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people. ¹ 

so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” ¹ 

But if you do not believe what Moses ¹  wrote, how will you believe my words?”

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited ¹  to him as righteousness.” ² 

For Christ is the end of the law, with the result that there is righteousness for everyone who believes.

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

And so ¹  all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned. ² 

This ¹  accords with the glorious gospel of the blessed God ²  that was entrusted to me. ³ 

But we are not among those who shrink back and thus perish, but are among those who have faith and preserve their souls. ¹
