The city’s rich men think nothing of resorting to violence; ¹  her inhabitants lie, ²  their tongues speak deceptive words. ³ 

They mock kings and laugh at rulers. They laugh at every fortified city; they build siege ramps ¹  and capture them.

Then the devil took him to the holy city, ¹  had him stand ²  on the highest point ³  of the temple,

(They ¹  came out of the tombs after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.)

He said, ¹  “In a certain city ²  there was a judge ³  who neither feared God nor respected people. ⁴ 

(This ¹  was a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection ²  started in the city, and for murder.) ³ 

On the next Sabbath almost the whole city assembled together to hear the word of the Lord. ¹ 

But the population ¹  of the city was divided; some ²  sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

So the Lord replied, “If I find in the city of Sodom fifty godly people, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

Before they could lie down to sleep, ¹  all the men – both young and old, from every part of the city of Sodom – surrounded the house. ² 

as his property in the presence of the sons of Heth before all who entered the gate of Ephron’s city. ¹
