So now order some cedars of Lebanon to be cut for me. My servants will work with your servants. I will pay your servants whatever you say is appropriate, for you know that we have no one among us who knows how to cut down trees like the Sidonians.”

The king stood by the pillar and renewed ¹  the covenant before the Lord, agreeing to follow ²  the Lord and to obey his commandments, laws, and rules with all his heart and being, ³  by carrying out the terms ⁴  of this covenant recorded on this scroll. All the people agreed to keep the covenant. ⁵ 

Intermarry with us. ¹  Let us marry your daughters, and take our daughters as wives for yourselves. ²

Israelites from Naphtali, Asher, and Manasseh answered the call and chased the Midianites. ¹ 

The priest was happy. He took the ephod, the personal idols, and the carved image and joined the group. ¹ 

Then a messenger came to David and reported, “The men of Israel are loyal to Absalom!” ¹ 

Then the army marched out to the field to fight against Israel. The battle took place in the forest of Ephraim.
