Do not chase after other gods until your shoes wear out and your throats become dry. ¹  But you say, ‘It is useless for you to try and stop me because I love those foreign gods ²  and want to pursue them!’

“Run for safety, people of Benjamin! Get out of Jerusalem! ¹  Sound the trumpet ²  in Tekoa! Light the signal fires at Beth Hakkerem! For disaster lurks ³  out of the north; it will bring great destruction. ⁴ 

But I have not pestered you to bring disaster. ¹  I have not desired the time of irreparable devastation. ²  You know that. You are fully aware of every word that I have spoken. ³ 

What do I see?” ¹  says the Lord. ²  “The soldiers ³  are terrified. They are retreating. They have been defeated. They are overcome with terror; ⁴  they desert quickly without looking back.

Even her mercenaries ¹  will prove to be like pampered, ²  well-fed calves. For they too will turn and run away. They will not stand their ground when ³  the time for them to be destroyed comes, the time for them to be punished.

He led me out by way of the north gate and brought me around the outside of the outer gate that faces toward the east; I noticed ¹  that the water was trickling out from the south side.

Hearing this, ¹  the men became even more afraid ²  and said to him, “What have you done?” (The men said this because they knew that he was trying to escape ³  from the Lord, ⁴  because he had previously told them. ⁵ )

So she went running ¹  to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

Three days later Laban discovered Jacob had left. ¹ 

But whenever raw flesh appears in it ¹  he will be unclean,

When ¹  the days of their feasting were finished, ²  Job would send ³  for them and sanctify ⁴  them; he would get up early ⁵  in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to ⁶  the number of them all. They meet with darkness in the daytime, ¹  and grope about ²  in the noontime as if it were night. ³ 

They ¹  are dark ²  because of ice; snow is piled ³  up over them. ⁴ 

Terrors ¹  frighten him on all sides and dog ²  his every step.

They allow their children to run ¹  like a flock; their little ones dance about.

when I prescribed ¹  its limits, and set ²  in place its bolts and doors,

It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not shy away from the sword.

Will it make a pact ¹  with you, so you could take it ²  as your slave for life?

Strength lodges in its neck, and despair ¹  runs before it.

When it rises up, the mighty are terrified, at its thrashing about they withdraw. ¹
