“Teach ¹  me and I, for my part, ²  will be silent; explain to me ³  how I have been mistaken. ⁴ 

Who ¹  will contend with me? If anyone can, I will be silent and die. ² 

People lie to one another; ¹  they flatter and deceive. ² 

And how is it that each one of us hears them ¹  in our own native language? ²

The whole earth ¹  had a common language and a common vocabulary. ² 

For the ear assesses ¹  words as the mouth ²  tastes food.

When Israel left Egypt, when the family of Jacob left a foreign nation behind, ² 

It is better to live ¹  in a desert land ²  than with a quarrelsome and easily-provoked ³  woman.

A continual dripping on a rainy day and a contentious wife ¹  are alike. ² 

If the snake should bite before it is charmed, ¹  the snake charmer ²  is in trouble. ³
