The Lord told Jeremiah, ¹  “Tell Baruch, ²  ‘The Lord says, “I am about to tear down what I have built and to uproot what I have planted. I will do this throughout the whole earth. ³ 

“When that time comes,” says the Lord, ¹  “the people of Israel and Judah will return to the land together. They will come back with tears of repentance as they seek the Lord their God. ² 

Tell the ones who coat it with whitewash that it will fall. When there is a deluge of rain, hailstones ¹  will fall and a violent wind will break out. ² 

Don’t spread the news in Gath! ¹  Don’t shed even a single tear! ²  In Beth Leaphrah sit in the dust! ³ 

and declared, “This man ¹  said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”

and saying, “You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! ¹  If you are God’s Son, come down ²  from the cross!”

For we have heard him saying that Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and change the customs ¹  that Moses handed down to us.”

That night the Lord said to him, “Take the bull from your father’s herd, as well as a second bull, one that is seven years old. ¹  Pull down your father’s Baal altar and cut down the nearby Asherah pole.

But Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, hugged his neck, and kissed him. Then they both wept.

When the messengers went to Gibeah (where Saul lived) ¹  and informed the people of these matters, all the people wept loudly. ² 

Perhaps the Lord will notice my affliction ¹  and this day grant me good in place of his curse.” ² 

But evil people are like thorns – all of them are tossed away, for they cannot be held in the hand.

Those who survive him are buried by the plague, ¹  and their ²  widows do not mourn for them.

On the flinty rock man has set to work ¹  with his hand; he has overturned mountains at their bases. ² 

They ¹  open their mouths to devour me ²  like a roaring lion that rips its prey. ³ 

The Lord deserves praise, ¹  for ²  he did not hand us over as prey to their teeth.

before the sun and the light ¹  of the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds disappear ²  after the rain;

You counted the houses in Jerusalem, ¹  and demolished houses so you could have material to reinforce the wall. ² 

Look, ambassadors ¹  cry out in the streets; messengers sent to make peace ²  weep bitterly.

So come on, let’s go ahead and attack it by night and destroy all its fortified buildings.’
