in hard work and toil, ¹  through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, many times without food, in cold and without enough clothing. ² 

Then the Lord said to Moses, “You are about to die, ¹  and then these people will begin to prostitute themselves with the foreign gods of the land into which they ²  are going. They ³  will reject ⁴  me and break my covenant that I have made with them. ⁵ 

The bad-looking, thin cows ate the seven fine-looking, fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.

He said to the people, “Be ready for the third day. Do not go near your wives.” ¹ 

¹ When ²  Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to commit sexual immorality ³  with the daughters of Moab.

Now therefore kill every boy, ¹  and kill every woman who has had sexual intercourse with a man. ² 

But all the young women ¹  who have not had sexual intercourse with a man ²  will be yours. ³ 

and 32,000 young women who had never had sexual intercourse with a man. ¹ 

In the middle of the night he was startled ¹  and turned over. ²  Now ³  he saw a woman ⁴  lying beside him! ⁵ 

For now ¹  I would be lying down and ²  would be quiet, ³  I would be asleep and then at peace ⁴ 

If ¹  I say, ²  “My bed will comfort me, ³  my couch will ease ⁴  my complaint,”

he lived in ruined towns ¹  and in houses where ²  no one lives, where they are ready to crumble into heaps. ³ 

In the dark the robber ¹  breaks into houses, ²  but by day they shut themselves in; ³  they do not know the light. ⁴ 

I will praise ¹  the Lord who ²  guides ³  me; yes, during the night I reflect and learn. ⁴ 

They are like a dream after one wakes up. ¹  O Lord, when you awake ²  you will despise them. ³ 

In the sight of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh reveal ¹  your power! Come and deliver us! ² 

O Lord God, invincible warrior! ¹  How long will you remain angry at your people while they pray to you? ² 

You carefully observe me when I travel or when I lie down to rest; ¹  you are aware of everything I do. ² 

Fearing the Lord ¹  leads ²  to life, ³  and one who does so will live ⁴  satisfied; he will not be afflicted ⁵  by calamity.

And you will be like one who lies down in the midst ¹  of the sea, and like one who lies down on the top of the rigging. ²
