(4:1) ¹  For look! In those ²  days and at that time I will return the exiles ³  to Judah and Jerusalem. ⁴ 

But Judah will reside securely forever, and Jerusalem will be secure ¹  from one generation to the next.

Many nations have now assembled against you. They say, “Jerusalem must be desecrated, ¹  so we can gloat over Zion!” ² 

Shout for joy, Daughter Zion! ¹  Shout out, Israel! Be happy and boast with all your heart, Daughter Jerusalem!

I asked, “Where are you going?” He replied, “To measure Jerusalem ¹  in order to determine its width and its length.”

so, to the contrary, I have planned in these days to do good to Jerusalem and Judah – do not fear!

So on that day I will set out to destroy all the nations ¹  that come against Jerusalem.”

The offerings ¹  of Judah and Jerusalem ²  will be pleasing to the Lord as in former times and years past.

But you must obey me and set the Sabbath day apart to me. You must not carry any loads in through ¹  the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. If you disobey, I will set the gates of Jerusalem on fire. It will burn down all the fortified dwellings in Jerusalem and no one will be able to put it out.’”

All Jerusalem was terrified ¹  because Gibeon was a large city, like one of the royal cities. It was larger than Ai and all its men were warriors.

So King Adoni-Zedek of Jerusalem sent this message to King Hoham of Hebron, King Piram of Jarmuth, King Japhia of Lachish, and King Debir of Eglon:

They did as ordered; ¹  they brought the five kings ²  out of the cave to him – the kings of Jerusalem, ³  Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon.

The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem and captured it. They put the sword to it and set the city on fire.

David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, ¹  and he put Goliath’s ²  weapons in his tent.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem ¹  he reigned for thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

David married more concubines and wives from Jerusalem after he arrived from Hebron. Even more sons and daughters were born to David.

Mephibosheth was living in Jerusalem, ¹  for he was a regular guest at the king’s table. But both his feet were crippled.

When the Ammonites saw the Arameans flee, they fled before his brother Abishai and went into the city. Joab withdrew from fighting the Ammonites and returned to ¹  Jerusalem. ² 

So David said to Uriah, “Stay here another day. Tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem both that day and the following one. ¹ 

Now two hundred men had gone with Absalom from Jerusalem. Since they were invited, they went naively and were unaware of what Absalom was planning. ¹
