So prophesy and say: ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: Surely because they have made you desolate and crushed you from all directions, so that you have become the property of the rest of the nations, and have become the subject of gossip ¹  and slander among the people,

He ¹  committed no sin nor was deceit found in his mouth. ² 

and the doors along the street are shut; when the sound of the grinding mill ¹  grows low, and one is awakened ²  by the sound of a bird, and all their ³  songs ⁴  grow faint, ⁵ 

Your claim to have a strategy and military strength is just empty talk. ¹  In whom are you trusting, that you would dare to rebel against me?

While these words were still on the king’s lips, ¹  a voice came down from heaven: “It is hereby announced to you, ²  King Nebuchadnezzar, that your kingdom has been removed from you!

I ate no choice food; no meat or wine came to my lips, ¹  nor did I anoint myself with oil ²  until the end of those three weeks.

I, Daniel, watched as two others stood there, one on each side of the river. ¹ 

A jar full of sour wine ¹  was there, so they put a sponge soaked in sour wine on a branch of hyssop ²  and lifted it ³  to his mouth.

because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord ¹  and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

But now, put off all such things ¹  as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth.

When he had finished ¹  speaking ²  all these words, the ground that was under them split open,

“Should not this ¹  abundance of words be answered, ²  or should this ³  talkative man ⁴  be vindicated? ⁵ 

They spew out threats ¹  and speak defiantly; all the evildoers boast. ² 

They will talk about the fame of your great kindness, ¹  and sing about your justice. ² 

The one who winks ¹  his ²  eye causes ³  trouble, and the one who speaks foolishness ⁴  will come to ruin.

For you are not being sent to a people of unintelligible speech ¹  and difficult language, ²  but ³  to the house of Israel –

In your days of majesty, ¹  was not Sodom your sister a byword in your mouth,

When I had returned, I noticed ¹  a vast number of trees on the banks of the river, on both sides.

They worship me in vain, teaching as doctrine the commandments of men.’ ¹ 

So ¹  the dead man ²  sat up and began to speak, and Jesus ³  gave him back ⁴  to his mother.
