And whoever touches the body of someone killed with a sword in the open fields, ¹  or the body of someone who died of natural causes, ²  or a human bone, or a grave, will be unclean seven days. ³

Then Elkanah went back home to Ramah. But the boy was serving the Lord under the supervision of ¹  Eli the priest.

The sin of these young men was very great in the Lord’s sight, for they ¹  treated the Lord’s offering with contempt.

Don’t ever cut off your loyalty to my family, not even when the Lord has cut off every one of David’s enemies from the face of the earth

So Saul took three thousand select men from all Israel and went to find ¹  David and his men in the region of ²  the rocks of the mountain goats. ³

His wife then took the covering and spread it over the top of the well and scattered some grain over it. No one was aware of what she had done.

The battle there was spread out over the whole area, and the forest consumed more soldiers than the sword devoured that day.
