Then ¹  Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River ²  and was led by the Spirit ³  in ⁴  the wilderness, ⁵ 

but ¹  wrath and anger to those who live in selfish ambition ²  and do not obey the truth but follow ³  unrighteousness.

an educator of the senseless, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the essential features of knowledge and of the truth –

and I died. So ¹  I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life brought death! ² 

One ¹  should think about us this way – as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

But I say, live ¹  by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. ² 

And all who will behave ¹  in accordance with this rule, peace and mercy be on them, and on the Israel of God. ² 

Nevertheless, let us live up to the standard ¹  that we have already attained. ² 

Now may the Lord direct your hearts toward the love of God ¹  and the endurance of Christ. ² 

Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, ¹  sound in faith, in love, and in endurance. ² 

Slaves ¹  are to be subject to their own masters in everything, ²  to do what is wanted and not talk back,

If so, have you not made distinctions ¹  among yourselves and become judges with evil motives? ² 

For they said to you, “In the end time there will come ¹  scoffers, propelled by their own ungodly desires.” ² 

All those ¹  I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent!

saying “Praised be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his faithful love ¹  for my master! The Lord has led me ²  to the house ³  of my master’s relatives!” ⁴ 

Then I bowed down and worshiped the Lord. I praised the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right path to find the granddaughter ¹  of my master’s brother for his son.

Israel stretched out his right hand and placed it on Ephraim’s head, although he was the younger. ¹  Crossing his hands, he put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, for Manasseh was the firstborn.

They will come back shedding tears of contrition. I will bring them back praying prayers of repentance. ¹  I will lead them besides streams of water, along smooth paths where they will never stumble. ²  I will do this because I am Israel’s father; Ephraim ³  is my firstborn son.’”

For though you may have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, because I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

Now the Lord said ¹  to Abram, ²  “Go out ³  from your country, your relatives, and your father’s household to the land that I will show you. ⁴
